The church of St Nino stands in Karsani village. St Nino, the enlightener of Georgia, is venerated across the country, and in the district of Mtskheta her name is heard especially often.
Karsani runs right up to the town edge of Mtskheta while remaining a separate village. The Marian church of Karsani itself stands about a kilometre and three hundred metres away, the Olga convent a little closer, and beyond it begins the Kodmani ridge with its houses and the road to Shiomghvime.
The church here is opened more often than in the far villages, and by day you can usually get inside without arranging it first. The rules are the usual ones: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet, photography inside by permission.
