A small church dedicated to Saint George by the site of Samshvilde. It is called at times a chapel and at times a church: for buildings of this size the line between the two words is a moving one and depends on whether a standing parish is attached.
Samshvilde is one of the best known places in this part of Kvemo Kartli: a nakalakari, that is, the site of an ancient town on a headland between two rivers. The church stands by it, and people usually come for the whole place at once.
The site is open and needs care underfoot: the masonry crumbles in places and the paths are worn without railings. At the church keep to the usual rules: covered shoulders and knees, quiet.
