The church is dedicated to David Garejeli, one of the thirteen Assyrian fathers: their coming to Georgia is linked with the spread of monastic life, and David's name is borne by the famous lavra in the Gareji desert. In common speech he is called both Father David and by his full name.
Tsalaskuri lies south of Tbilisi, in the hills between the capital and the Tsalka direction. The place is a secluded one: the nearest neighbouring shrine, the Mariamoba church in Borbalo, stands about seven and a half kilometres away.
The visit is planned on its own, as it will not fit on the way to other villages. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and a headscarf for women.
