The second village church of Tnusi, known by the word shveli. The word reads two ways in Georgian: it can mean a roe deer, in which case the name came from the place and its wildlife, or it can point to shvela, help and intercession, which would make this a church of the helper. Both readings remain guesses and neither is confirmed.
The building stands in the lower part of the village, about four hundred metres from the church called Tekenebi. A few minutes on foot separate them, so both can be seen in one visit. The spread along the slope is usually explained either by two family centres in the village or by parishes of different periods, but that too remains a supposition. The century of building is unknown.
The church is small and in use, with services held rarely. Dress modestly and women wear a headscarf; in the yard it is worth being quieter than usual, as the village is small and the parish a domestic one.
