A church of St Sophia stood here, and only the site is left of it. Such places are called naeklesiari in Georgia: the building has gone, yet the district remembers what it was dedicated to, and the name stays with the empty plot.
The church closes the Samadlo trio. It is two hundred and thirty metres from here to the church of St Constantine and two hundred and sixty to the Ascension church, so all three can be walked in one short round. The village lies on the plateau north-east of Tsalka.
People come here to a place rather than to a building. Nothing is dug up and no stones are moved, and that is the main rule for visiting such places.
