The chapel bears the name of St John the Baptist. This is one of the commonest dedications in Georgia, and small rural buildings carrying it are found from the foothills to the high mountains.
It stands in the east of Sabechisi and turns out to be the farthest of the local shrines: three hundred metres from here to the nearest ruins of the St George church, and half a kilometre or more to the rest. The village lies on a plateau north-east of Tsalka, in open and windy country.
There are no regular services here and the place is always open. East of the village the snow lies longer in winter, and the approach can be harder.
