The church ruins in Mamkhuti village in Bolnisi Municipality have survived very sparely: only the north wall is left of the building. Sources place the church in the span from the 11th to the 13th century.
A pilaster and a two tier plinth are visible on that wall. There are few details, but they say a good deal: the pilaster means the vault rested on wall supports, and a two tier plinth turns up in buildings with a considered facade design rather than in hastily built village chapels.
Nothing more is known. Neither the plan, nor the placing of the entrances, nor traces of murals can be established from a single wall, so anything further is guesswork, and guesswork does not go into the description.
💡 Tip
- Only the north wall of the building survives
- The pilaster points to a vault on wall supports
- A two tier plinth is rare in plain village churches
