A church of the Mother of God in the village of Vake. The name is easy to mistake: Vake is widely known as a district of Tbilisi, but here it is a separate village north of Tetritskaro, and all they share is a word meaning a plain.
The place is a quiet one and the village holds a single shrine. The nearest neighbours in the area are the two churches of Chkhikvta about six kilometres away, and beyond them begins the group of four at Toneti.
Find the village by geography rather than by name: Vake alone occurs more than once in Georgia. The rules are those of any working church: covered shoulders and knees, quiet, and a headscarf for women.
💡 Tip
