The church of St. John the Baptist stands by the western edge of Vanta village in Telavi Municipality. It is the second St. John church of the village: the first one is in the northeastern part, and the two spots are easy to mix up.
Vanta lies at the foot of the Tsiv-Gombori range, on the edge of the Alazani valley. The village also has the Gziri Bagi church of the Virgin Mary, and the Saghandzili ruins lie in the foothills to the southwest.
Regular services may not be held, and the church can be approached at any time. Modest clothing is appropriate, and candles and offerings are left in their places.
