The church is dedicated to the Mother of God and remains one of the working churches of Mukuzani. The Kakhetian tradition of Marian dedications is the same here as across the region: the main day falls at the end of August, on Mariamoba.
Mukuzani is a village whose name appears on labels of dry red wine around the world. Arriving here for the wine, it is easy to drive past the church, although it is precisely the centre of everyday local life. On Mariamoba the villages of the Alazani valley fill with guests, and Mukuzani is no exception.
The church is open during daytime hours, which makes planning noticeably easier. The village holds other churches too, including the Mchedliaant family church away from the centre.
