St. George is the patron of Georgia and the most frequent dedication in the country, so a church of his stands in almost every sizeable village. Akhasheni keeps to the norm.
The church closes the western part of the village, nearer the road towards Mukuzani. The building is modest, without architectural ambition, yet it is this church that most often gathers the residents of the nearby streets. The other Christian buildings of Akhasheni are within walking distance, so the village is easy to cover in one outing.
Giorgoba, the day of St. George, is kept twice a year in Georgia, in spring and in November, and on those days village churches like this become genuinely crowded. To see the village alive, come for the November date.
