Amaghleba, the Ascension, is one of those Georgian dedications that almost always go to churches on high ground: the meaning of the feast and the relief coincide neatly here.
The church in Mukuzani is no exception: it stands in the eastern part of the village, from where the whole surrounding valley reads clearly. Mukuzani holds several Christian buildings, unexpectedly many for a village known above all for its wine. They can be gathered into one short circuit within an hour without leaving the village.
The parish is active and services follow their own order. Dress soberly, women bring a headscarf. Vineyards come right up to the fence, and in autumn, at the height of the harvest, the village is especially lively.
