The Saint Elijah naeklesiari marks the place where a church once stood in the Sakobiano area. The building itself has not survived; a foundation and traces of masonry remain on the site.
The Georgian word naeklesiari means precisely the site of a former church, and such points are frequent in mountain Kakheti. Elijah the Prophet is one of the main venerated saints here, and churches in neighbouring villages carry his name too. The area is wooded, the approach unpaved, and there are no markings on the ground.
Keep to the paths and watch your step, since stones hide in the grass. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
