This Virgin Mary church complex is called Gvtismshoblis Chala. The word chala is Georgian for riverside thickets, and the complex takes its name from such a spot.
The site lies near Kisiskhevi village, southeast of Telavi, at the foot of the Gombori range. Orchards and vineyards of the Alazani valley surround it.
You can come at any time, and modest dress is appropriate for services. Quiet is expected inside, and offerings are left where they are.
