Lake Gurgumela, alongside Devi and Gulouri, three of the hardest-to-reach lakes in the region, is covered in the guide to the high-mountain lakes of Imereti. The lake lies near Tsinsopeli village, in Chiatura Municipality, and remains one of the least-visited water bodies of northern Imereti.
Its remoteness means there's no infrastructure at all, no signage, no trails, no rest areas. A navigator or local guide is recommended, especially for a first visit. That same remoteness makes Gurgumela appealing to those seeking genuine solitude and untouched scenery away from crowds.
The best time to visit is summer, when mountain roads are most passable. In the shoulder seasons road conditions can be unpredictable, so it's worth checking ahead with locals or tour operators running trips in this direction.
