What exactly stands on the Sameba hill near Sormoni is told in different ways in the district: some call the place a church of the Holy Trinity, others a worship cross on the top. The difference is substantial, and only someone who climbs up and looks can settle it.
The name of the hill explains much: sameba means Trinity in Georgian, and the dedication of the place is fixed in the name itself. Sormoni lies north-east of Kutaisi, in the foothills, and the climb opens a view over the whole valley.
There are no regular services here and people come freely. The climb is short but steep, and in wet weather the path is slippery.
