The dedication here is rare and beautiful: the Presentation of the Most Holy Mother of God in the Temple, in Georgian tadzradmiqvaneba, literally a bringing into the temple. The feast falls at the start of December and is tied to the tradition of the three-year-old Mary being brought to the Temple in Jerusalem.
Shubani lies in western Imereti, south of Kutaisi. The same village holds another church, dedicated to Saint George and known under several names at once. The century of building is not established and no details have survived.
