The church of St George stands in Gvishtibi, a village that adjoins Tskaltubo from the east. The line between town and village is a nominal one here, and the buildings of the one pass imperceptibly into the other.
It is some two and a half kilometres from here to the centre of Tskaltubo. The town is known for its mineral waters and the abandoned sanatoria of the Soviet years, while the village lives by its own ways. The second Gvishtibi shrine, the church of St Marina, stands two kilometres away.
There are no regular services, and visits are arranged with local people. The parish is alive, and on the patronal feast the church is opened.
