In the northern foothills of Guria, on the heights of Mount Nigoiti, lies one of the most beautiful and spiritually rich places in Georgia - Dzhikheti. Here, between the villages of Chkonagora and Sameba, the Convent of the Trinity-Dzhikheti Church of the 19th century is comfortably located.
Carrying a centuries-old history, the monastery became a holy refuge for nuns who went into prayer and self-sacrifice. Built on a site chosen according to legend that three doves pointed to it for the construction of a new temple, Dzhikheti became an oasis of faith and spirituality for many.
Through the centuries, the monastery has experienced a lot. According to legend, there was a castle here in ancient times, and then a temple rose on its ruins. In the 19th century, under the leadership of the nun Elena Mgaloblishvili and thanks to the generosity of the Machutadze princes, the foundation of the modern monastery was laid. Since then, the place has attracted pilgrims and seekers of spiritual enlightenment.
Today Dzhikheti is not only a holy place, but also a center of spiritual and cultural life. There is a monastery school here, church life is organized, and the monastery museum houses sacred artifacts and household items of the first inhabitants of the monastery.
In addition to its spiritual heritage, Dzhikheti attracts with its unique natural environment. On its territory there is a spring, the “Source of the Jordan,” whose water is famous for its healing properties, and the equipped swimming pool has become a place for ablution and mental cleansing.
