In western Guria the name Laituri belongs to a whole cluster: the settlement with its railway station gave its name to several sites around it, and four churches and mosques here carry that name.

This one, the first of the churches, stands in the neighbouring village of Meria. The clustering of Christian and Muslim sites in one node is an important feature of western Guria: closer to the Adjaran border the confessional map is noticeably more varied than in the east of the region. Junctions always gather a mixed population, and Laituri is a case in point.

Neither a dedication nor a date has become attached to the building. The second Laituri church, a round one, stands in Khvarbeti to the east. Dress soberly and treat the walls with care.

An intriguing site featuring the ruins of a solitary "Old Believers" church in Guria. It was constructed in 1928 using concrete. It's unfortunate that this location is now privately owned. The road leading to the church from the village is unpaved and in very poor condition.
