The Karlo Jishkariani House Museum keeps the setting of a town house and the objects tied to the name of its owner: furniture, photographs, documents and everyday things. The port city of Poti lived differently from rural Mingrelia, and houses like this show that town life from within. The collection is intimate and the account is given in person.

The house stands on Lev Tolstoy street, in the older part of Poti, close to the centre and the port. The city grew around the harbour in the nineteenth century, which explains its regular plan with a round square and radial streets. The cathedral and the park are nearby.

The house is small and half an hour is enough. The first half of the day is the easier time, and it is better to arrange the visit in advance. Combine the trip with a walk through central Poti and lake Paliastomi.

Tips

  • Combine the visit with a walk around the round square and the cathedral
  • Look in at lake Paliastomi, it lies within the city
  • Come in the first half of the day, you are more likely to find someone in

How to get there

  • About ten minutes on foot from the centre of Poti
  • Roughly an hour and a quarter from Kutaisi via Samtredia and Poti
