The Neli Dumbadze House Museum is set up in a village house and keeps the belongings, documents and photographs tied to the name of its owner. In collections like this the value lies not in rare objects but in the wholeness of the setting: the rooms stay as they were in her lifetime. Relatives or neighbours tell the story.
The house stands in Shemokmedi, the same village in the Ozurgeti municipality that holds the monastery complex and the ethnographic collection. Around it are hills, orchards and tea plantations. Three sites in one village make half a day easy to plan without driving between them.
The house is small and half an hour is enough. The first half of the day is the easier time, and it is better to arrange the visit through the village in advance. Combine the trip with the other sites in Shemokmedi.
Tips
- Plan Shemokmedi as a whole, the village holds three sites close together
- Ask in the village if the door is locked, someone nearby usually has the key
- Come in the morning, village houses are more often closed later in the day
How to get there
- About ten minutes by car from Ozurgeti along the road towards Shemokmedi
- Roughly an hour from Batumi via Kobuleti and Ozurgeti
