The success of the Georgian film "Blackbird Blackbird" at the International Film Festival in Sarajevo

The drama, which reveals a love story in the secluded corners of the Georgian hinterland, continues to win the hearts of the world audience. Georgian director Elene Naveriani was pleased with two well-deserved awards at the Sarajevo International Film Festival, which was held in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Sarajevo Film Festival, which is the largest in southeastern Europe, began its journey in 1995, in the midst of the siege of Sarajevo. Then the audience of the festival was only 15 thousand people, but today this large-scale cultural and cinematic event attracts more than 100 thousand viewers.

The Georgian film "Blackbird Blackbird" received two prestigious prizes: "Best Feature Film" and "Best Female Role", which was brilliantly performed by actress Eka Chavleishvili.

The plot of the film revolves around Etero, a 48-year-old woman living in a secluded village in Georgia. She never wanted marriage, preferring to maintain her independence. However, her choice of life without a spouse becomes the object of conversations and gossip among neighbors.

It's exciting, she suddenly falls in love with a man, and she faces a dilemma: continue a romantic relationship or stay true to her independent life. Ethero is forced to unravel her feelings and determine her path to happiness.

The film "Blackbird Blackbird" is based on the novel by Tamta Melashvili, who was awarded the main literary prize of Georgia "Saba" in the nomination "Best Novel of the Year" in 2021.

The world premiere of this film was held as part of the independent section of the Quinzaine des cinéastes festival at the Cannes International Film Festival in May 2023. This film continues to establish Georgia on the world cinematic map.
