Peter's Fortress — an accessible history of Georgia
A unique opportunity for a tourist to visit a local landmark on the way from Kobuleti to Batumi is to visit the fortress city of Peter, or rather what is left of it.
Peter's Fortress, built in the 6th century on an impregnable rock, guarded the trade route from Persia to Georgia.
The ruins of the fortification are visible from the road. Walking along the stone terraces, entwined with ivy and brambles is doubly interesting if you know the history of these places.
In order to feel a touch of ancient history, you need to know it. To spend a vacation in Georgia is to combine travel with education.
