📝 The introduction of new anti-smoking rules has been postponed by the Parliament of Georgia until 2024.

🗣 The Human Rights Committee and the Committee on Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy of the Parliament of Georgia have adopted the idea to postpone the introduction of the law on standard packs until 2024. At the same time, the Ministry of Health of Georgia objects and does not approve the postponement of the entry into force of the law. The Ministry of Health of Georgia believes that there are no grounds for this and insists on the entry into force of the law from December 31, 2022. Isco Dasen, one of the authors of the bill, explained that the transfer is necessary so that production companies can avoid losses, since when the law enters, it is impossible to avoid an increase in illegal products on the market, this will naturally entail a decrease in the sale of legal products.

❗️ What standardization rules does the anti-smoking law include:

-cigarettes on the shelves will have to be sold in packs. The packs will indicate: the brand in the state language (font no more than 14), the address and phone number of the manufacturer and the country of manufacture (font no more than 10);

- the pack will necessarily indicate the number of cigarettes (20 pieces);

- there will have to be a characteristic "with a filter" or "without a filter" in the state language;

- the name will be placed in two places on the pack on one line;

- the pack will be cardboard or paper, necessarily dark in color, smooth and without decorative elements;

- the foil inside the packs will be without signs and silver coloring;

- bundles will be at least 64 mm in height, 40 mm in width and 10 mm in depth;

- cigarettes should be completely white, without any signs;

- there will be no logos on cigarette packs, only a warning about the dangers of smoking.
