🎰 In Georgia, a permit is now required to conduct online gambling.
📝 In Georgia, since 2005, the law "On Lotteries and the device of gambling and winning games" has been in force, controlling the operation of casinos, slot clubs, sweepstakes and other gambling games. In November 2021, I. Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia, said that it was necessary to impose a ban on the activities of online casinos in Georgia, but noted that it was impossible to do it right away, since this direction is the most profitable in Georgia. Therefore, the ban will occur in stages.
🎲 The first stage can be considered an increase in taxes for gambling companies by 65-70%, an age limit for online gambling up to 25 years has been introduced. At the second stage, a database of persons who are prohibited from playing in an online casino was compiled. On March 1, 2022, the Ministry of Finance published a register containing about 1.5 million people and including ludomaniacs, officials, and social workers.
👀 A question has been submitted to the Parliament for discussion on a change in the law, namely:
- in order to organize online gambling in Georgia, it will be required: for the owner of the casino permit – only the online casino permit, for the owner of the slot machines permit - only the online gaming machine permit, for sweepstakes – the online sweepstakes permit;
- the cost of the fee for issuing permits will amount to 100 thousand lari per year;
- violation of the conditions threatens with a fine of 50 thousand lari;
- a fine of 20 thousand lari will be charged for failure to pay the fine.
🎰 At the moment there are 10 online casinos, 90 sweepstakes and about 6.4 thousand gambling machines in Georgia.
