In order to strengthen the position of Georgian alcoholic beverages in local and international markets, the National Wine Agency conducts constant quality control of alcohol produced in Georgia. In the first half of 2023, 83 companies were tested, and out of 280 samples submitted, 12 violated the established standards, according to the agency.

These checks are aimed at determining the compliance of certified export alcoholic beverages and alcohol with the standards submitted for certification, as well as bottled wine. As a result, 12 companies were deprived of the certificate.

Since June 2021, according to the new regulations, the inspection of certified Georgian export wine is carried out by international audit companies SGS and Bureau Veritas in the economic customs zone. In the period January-June of this year, 44 companies were inspected, and out of 233 samples, 30 violated standards. Certificates were refused to 12 companies.

In addition, 143 tastings of export alcoholic beverages with organoleptic testing were conducted. Of the 6,274 samples, 204 received a negative rating, while the rest were evaluated positively.

Such checks and quality control are carried out by the relevant services of the National Wine Agency in order to increase the competitiveness of Georgian alcoholic beverages in the local and world markets. It is the quality of Georgian wine that has contributed to their high demand in various countries.

It is important to note that in 2022, up to 103 million liters of wine were exported from Georgia for a total value of $ 252.5 million, setting a record in the country's history. The largest share of these exports, namely 63.7%, was sent to Russia. 73.1 thousand tons of wine were exported for a total of $160.8 million.
