The Asian Development Bank allocates 45 million euros for the development of the irrigation sector in Georgia

Georgia will receive financial support of about 45 million euros from the Asian Development Bank to launch a program for a climate-optimized irrigation sector. The project, which was signed by Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili and Director of the Asian Development Bank Leslie Burman Lam, is aimed at strengthening agricultural systems in Eastern Georgia, with an emphasis on the Kakheti region.

The main focus of the program is not only on improving the physical infrastructure, but also on improving the country's legal and institutional framework in the field of irrigation policy and water resources. It is planned to increase the efficiency of water use, strengthen management control, ensuring the financial stability of the irrigation system in the face of climate change.

The project is also aimed at making the irrigation system more sustainable by raising the level of accountability, transparency and management efficiency of Georgia Melioration LLC. The Asian Development Bank, supporting Georgia since 2007, continues to actively participate in projects aimed at sustainable economic growth and poverty reduction in the country.
