The house of St George stands on the road from Mtskheta to Shiomghvime. It is mentioned as the church of St George as well, so the size of the community cannot be guessed from the name.
The site has no village of its own and belongs to the Kodmani district above Mtskheta, where the houses stand one after another: the Marian basilica about three hundred metres away, the monastery of St Demetrius of Thessaloniki seven hundred and seventy, the house of David the Builder a kilometre off. The road runs higher from here, to the caves of Shiomghvime.
The rules here are monastic: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet, photography by permission. The road along the gorge is narrow with few passing places, so keep an even pace at the wheel and allow half a day for a round of the four houses.
