How to choose movers and a carrier for a move in Georgia

In brief: movers, a truck, or a specialized transport service

For an apartment move, first decide who will pack and carry the belongings and who will provide the transport. If you need both services, agree on them in one list with one person responsible for the whole order. Transporting a car, lifting with a crane and removing waste are discussed separately: an ordinary "move with movers" request does not cover these tasks.

Before you get in touch, make a list of large items, write down the floors and access conditions at both addresses, and take photos that show no personal documents. Then open the right section for your city and send the same request to each candidate. This makes it easier to compare what the offers include and to notice costs that are not yet part of the estimate.

Sections by city: choose your task

Links checked on 31 October 2026. Each city row lists the sections published in this set. If only a tow truck operator is listed, the link is for transporting a car, not a list of apartment movers. Check with the provider whether they travel between cities and whether they serve your address.

Which profile your order needs

Choose by the scope of the work. Having a truck does not by itself answer questions about carrying, packing or assembling furniture. Clarify each service you need before you agree on the visit.

How to go from a section to a provider

  1. Open the section for your city and the profile you need. Check the city and trade in the heading, then go to the list of providers.
  2. If needed, use the visible "Name or address" and "District" fields. Do not treat a position in the list as confirmation of availability on your date.
  3. Open the candidate's card. Check the specialization, the city and the available way to get in touch; clarify the services you need in person.
  4. Send the same request to suitable candidates. Compare the replies by what the order includes and confirm your chosen option in writing.

The card helps you find a contact. It does not replace an estimate for your move: check the service area, the date, the team and the transport. Do not infer a vehicle's capacity, or experience with transporting a heavy item, from a single photo.

How to write a moving request

Start with the route and the date. For each address, give the floor, whether there is a working lift, the dimensions of its door and cabin if you know them, and the path from the entrance to the place where the vehicle will stop. Mention steps, a narrow passage, a closed courtyard and the times when access is allowed. Give the exact address to the chosen provider in a private conversation.

Make the list of belongings item by item: large furniture, household appliances, boxes and fragile items. For a large wardrobe or sofa, attach the dimensions and an overall photo, and note whether it needs to be taken apart. If the weight is unknown, say so, so that the carrier can clarify it before choosing equipment. Photos must not show documents, keys with address tags or other people's personal information.

Write separately what is already prepared. For example, the customer has packed the small items, while the wardrobe needs to be taken apart, protected and reassembled at the new place. A detailed step-by-step plan for moving and packing will be useful for the overall schedule; the material on preparing for a do-it-yourself home move will help you divide up your own tasks.

Tip. Number the large items in the list and in the photos. Then the phrase "the wardrobe needs to be taken apart" refers to a specific piece, and additions to the request will not get lost among similar pictures.

How to check the provider and the vehicle

Ask about a similar order: what items they moved, whether there were narrow passages and who did the dismantling. Find out who will come for your order and who will be responsible for communication. Use reviews to prepare questions about care and about agreeing terms; the date, route and scope of work still need to be confirmed separately.

Ask them to name the truck, the usable dimensions of the cargo area and any limits for your load. The carrier should compare these with the request and explain whether dismantling or extra trips are needed. Ask what is used to protect surfaces and how items are secured on the road. For a closed load, fragile items and appliances, write down the agreed way of placing them.

If you hire the movers and the driver separately, agree on who will coordinate the arrival time, receive the belongings and deal with waiting time. For a single combined order, ask whether the stated price includes both parts. Separate materials on moving with movers and on the turnkey moving format will help you compare ways of organizing a move; record the exact scope in your own request.

What the estimate should contain

Ask for the offer to be broken down into items. Next to each piece of work, the volume, the basis of calculation and the conditions for changing the amount should be clear. If the estimate is hourly, ask when the clock starts and stops and how travel, waiting and part hours are counted. For a per-trip price, agree on the route and on what happens if the belongings do not fit.

Check whether carrying at both addresses, assembly, packing materials and clearing away used packaging are included. Agree on how additional items, delayed access or a repeat trip are paid for. For a detailed breakdown of the factors, see our article on the cost of moving; for your own order, get an estimate with the date and route.

A common mistake. Comparing the price of a vehicle with the price of the whole move. One offer may include only a driver and a trip, another also carrying, packing and assembly. First make the scope of work equal, then compare the amounts.

Sample request: from Tbilisi to Rustavi

Example. "I need a move from Tbilisi to Rustavi. We will agree the date and arrival window in correspondence. Departure from the third floor without a lift, delivery to the second floor with a lift; I will send the cabin dimensions separately. Belongings: a sofa 220 × 90 cm, a dismantled bed, a washing machine and 12 boxes. I have packed the boxes myself. I need protection for the sofa, carrying at both addresses and transport. I will attach photos of the passages and the large items. Please confirm a suitable vehicle, the team, what is included in the estimate and under what changes an extra charge will apply. We are not ordering special machinery without separate agreement."

This is a training sample, not a completed order. Before confirmation, it needs the exact addresses, date and time filled in, access checked and the preparation of any equipment agreed. The provider's reply should list the accepted items, the included operations and the conditions for changing the estimate.

Piano, tow truck, crane and rubbish: what to clarify separately

For a piano or another heavy non-standard item, ask about experience with exactly this kind of load and about suitable equipment. Provide the model, any known dimensions and weight data, photos of the passages and the access conditions. Let the specialist confirm whether the order is possible after assessing the carrying route. A separate section for piano movers is not presented in the directory.

Tell the tow truck operator the make and model of the car, its location, the condition of the wheels, whether the wheels can be steered and the access to the parking place. The provider chooses the loading method based on these conditions. The car scenario has its own dedicated article about auto repair shops and tow trucks in Georgia; here you choose a profile for transport.

For a crane or other special machinery, describe the load and the site, and attach any available information on weight and dimensions. Agree whether an inspection is needed. Leave the choice of equipment, supports, rigging and the work zone to the specialist provider; the general phrase "lift furniture" is not enough for such an order.

Important. Do not lift an item up to a window and do not try to hang it out to test whether loading is possible. When special machinery is working, the responsible specialist agrees the place and the order of actions. The customer provides information about the load and access and does not carry out a trial lift.

For waste removal, name what it consists of: old furniture, packaging, construction leftovers or other items. Ask whether the provider accepts exactly this load, where they take it and how they confirm the handover. The drop-off address and the permitted types of waste must be agreed before removal. It is better to record transporting useful belongings and disposing of unwanted ones as separate items.

What to record before loading and check after delivery

Agree on an inventory of belongings and note any visible damage before work begins. Take photos of the condition with the consent of both sides, if possible without people or personal data in the frame. Write down the contact of the person responsible and the procedure if an item is lost or damaged: whom to inform, how to record the circumstances and when to expect a reply.

If the provider talks about insurance, ask for the document and the terms as they apply to your load: who is insured, which risks are covered and which exclusions apply. The phrase "we are responsible for everything" does not explain how compensation works. Read the proposed agreement before handing over your belongings; clarify any disputed terms in advance.

At the delivery place, check the items and boxes against the inventory, inspect the accessible surfaces and check the agreed assembly. If something is damaged, keep the photos, the item number and the correspondence, inform the person responsible and record the complaint in the handover document, if one is drawn up. Note the completion of transport and the completion of assembly separately if they are different stages.

For appliances, check preparation and connection against the instructions for that model. Find out the permitted position and the waiting time before switching on from the manufacturer's instructions.

Checklist before confirming the order

  • The route, date, arrival time and access at both addresses are confirmed.
  • You have an inventory, photos of large items and information about floors, lifts and passages.
  • The carrier has confirmed suitable transport and the team.
  • Packing, carrying, dismantling and assembly are listed as separate items.
  • The final estimate or the method of calculation, waiting time and conditions for extra charges are clear.
  • A responsible person is named, and the handover of belongings, checking and the steps to take in case of damage are agreed.

Questions and answers

What should I include for an accurate moving estimate?

The route, the date, the floors and access conditions at both addresses, the list of items and the dimensions of large ones. Note packing, dismantling and assembly separately. Ask the provider to list what other information is still needed before the estimate is confirmed.

Is packing included in the service?

Check this in the offer. Write down which items the team packs, who supplies the materials and whether they are included in the price. The word "move" on its own does not define what the order includes.

How do I order piano transport?

Send a separate request for the specific instrument: model, known dimensions and weight, floors, passages and photos. Ask for confirmation of experience and equipment for this task. Do not treat an ordinary movers' service as confirmation of such a capability.

What information should I give a tow truck operator?

The make and model of the car, its location, access, the condition of the wheels and whether it can be steered, as well as the delivery point. If something is unknown, say so. Based on the request, the provider should confirm suitable equipment and loading conditions.

What if there is no moving section for my city?

In the set presented, some cities have only a tow truck operator section. Do not use it as a substitute for movers. Ask the carrier you find whether they travel between cities and whether they serve your address; a presence in a neighbouring city does not confirm service on your route.

What should I do if an item is damaged?

Record the item and the damage, compare it with the original photos and inform the person responsible for the order. Keep the inventory, the estimate and the correspondence. Agree on further steps according to the documents of your own order, without relying on a general phrase about a guarantee.

For your order, use your own inventory and the confirmed scope of services.
