Martvili Canyon: how to get there and what to see?
Boat rides, waterfalls and what's nearby.
Short answer
Martvili Canyon is in Samegrelo, about 45 kilometres from Kutaisi, reached by taxi, car or a tour from Kutaisi. There's a footpath above the Abasha river with waterfalls and a short inflatable boat ride on turquoise water. Entry is paid, with the boat ride charged separately.
Why
- Martvili Monastery is near the canyon, and Okatse Canyon is nearby.
- There can be queues in summer, so arrive at opening time.
- Boat trips may be cancelled after heavy rain.
Details
Martvili combines well with Okatse Canyon and Kinchkha waterfall in a day from Kutaisi. Wear comfortable shoes, as paths can be slippery.
Tip
Arrive at opening time to avoid queuing for the boat.
What may differ
Boat trips may be cancelled after heavy rain, and summer queues are longer.
