IMF recommends broadening Georgia's housing price index to cover resale homes and rents
An IMF technical mission to Georgia (13–24 April 2026) recommended widening the residential property price index, adding resale housing and creating a separate rent indicator, BM.GE reports.
Geostat now builds the index from new and under-construction apartments and from private houses in Tbilisi. The data are collected from ss.ge, so the index tracks asking prices in listings and not the prices of completed deals.
Geostat is expected to add data on existing homes when it publishes first-quarter 2027 figures; revised results are due in April 2027. The IMF also suggests using Geostat's rental rate data to build a rental price index and a price-to-rent ratio.
