Chachubeti Church of the Mother of God: 8th Century Temple

The Church of the Mother of God in Chachubeti is located in the central Georgian region of Shida Kartli, in the village of Chachubeti, part of the Kaspi Municipality.

Georgia's landmarks are ancient historical monuments carefully preserved by people as a reminder of their ancestors. Although the church was built in the 8th-9th centuries, it has survived to this day virtually intact, thanks to its construction of polished stone and cobblestones. It is a massive hall building.

The church walls are decorated with exquisite medieval paintings and relief crosses. The images depict saints and praying monks. There are several ways to enter the church: through the southern, northern, and western entrances. On the eastern façade, there is a relief cross enclosed in a circle.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, storerooms were added to three sides of the church, connected by arches. The most massive extension is the southern one; it is divided into three parts: a vestibule and a central section, which rises above the side sections, forming a steep slope. The northern extension is more modest, but also worthy of attention. Here, a carved door leads into the church building.
