On the high bank of the river Tskali is located Tsugrugrasheni monastery. The building dates back to the 13th century, which was established by archaeologists during the study of the Georgian landmark.
The monastery of the 13th century Tsugrugasheni is located on the Tskali River. Its walls are covered with inscriptions, and the territories adjacent to the monastery can be attributed to one of the most beautiful places in Georgia - the river bank looks very picturesque in the rays of the setting sun.
In the southwestern edge of Georgia there is a picturesque monastery - Tsugrugasheni, it belongs to the early Medieval architecture of the 13th century. The territory adjacent to the monastery deserves a special mention, because the building stands on the slope of the mountain, towering over the rest of the valley and the banks of the Tskali River, the most beautiful places of Georgia are visible here at a glance.
The walls are covered with inscriptions, people such as King George and the builder of the church A. Hassan are mentioned there. Thanks to these inscriptions, scientists were able to conclude about the time of construction, which dates back to the thirteenth century, during the reign of King George Lash 1212-1222.
The sights of Georgia are often shrouded in secrets and legends, the same can be said about the Tsugrugasheni Monastery. There is a hiding place in the monastery: on the south side, next to the entrance door, there is a small depression the size of a fist, where the Bolnisi cross is kept, surrounded by ornaments and a Georgian inscription. In addition to the hiding place, ornaments can be found on the inner walls, the interior of the monastery is also rich in religious subjects and icons. If you are interested in medieval architecture and applied Georgian art, there is something to see in Georgia.
Legend
According to legend, the purpose of the cache was to preserve the traditions and sovereignty of the Georgian people. During the construction of the church, conflicts between Georgians and other nationalities repeatedly flared up. In order for Georgians to find shelter and protection in case of danger, this hiding place was created.
