In the vicinity of the Tskvarichamia community, near the village of Mamkodi, there is the Mamkodi Monastery.

History

The sights of Georgia are distinguished by a rich history, the monastery complex has experienced many difficult periods: after construction in the 19th century under the leadership of Father George, the entire monastery ensemble flourished, worship and religious celebrations were actively conducted in it. In 1924, during the liquidation of religious buildings, the Bolsheviks destroyed the churches of St. George and the Mother of God. At the beginning of the two thousandth, the restoration of the church complex began in order to restore its original appearance. In 2006, worship and celebration of religious holidays resumed in the church. Previously, there was a monastery on the territory of the complex, today it has been transferred to the section of female monasteries.

Legend

Like many places in Georgia, the Mamkod Monastery is surrounded by legends and secrets, one of which is connected with the man who had his hand in the construction of the complex – David the Builder. Due to its geographical location, and the monastery is located on the top, it was clearly visible from the valley and was a constant target for attacks by invaders and robbers. As a result of another looting, the village where David was located was destroyed and robbed, this upset him very much and David made every effort to prevent this from happening again, he prayed to the gods that they would bless these lands and protect the inhabitants from the attacks of foreigners.
