Mamkodi Monastic Complex in Tbilisi National Park
The monastery complex is located in eastern Georgia, near the Tskhvarichamia community. The monastery can also be reached from Tbilisi; it is located nearby, just five kilometers from the village of Mamkodi. The monastery complex is perched on a hill, offering picturesque views of Georgia's most beautiful sites.
The Mamkodi monastery complex includes two main churches, St. George and the Mother of God, a small bell tower, and a defensive fortress containing the remains of an ancient city. The various buildings date back to different periods, but all are, without exception, constructed of hand-made stone and brick, lending a unique air of antiquity and authenticity to the monastic complex. There's definitely something to see in Georgia, especially for lovers of medieval architecture and historical sites.

History
Georgia's landmarks boast a rich history. The monastery complex has survived many difficult periods. After its construction in the 19th century under the direction of Father George, the entire monastery complex flourished, hosting active services and religious celebrations. In 1924, during the liquidation of religious buildings, the Bolsheviks destroyed both the Church of St. George and the Church of the Virgin Mary. In the early 2000s, restoration of the church complex began to restore its original appearance. In 2006, services and the celebration of religious holidays resumed. The complex previously housed a monastery; today, it has been reclassified as a convent.
Legend
Like many places in Georgia, Mamkoda Monastery is surrounded by legends and mysteries, one of which is associated with the man who contributed to the complex's construction—David the Builder. Due to its geographical location—the monastery was perched on a hilltop—it was clearly visible from the valley and was a constant target for attacks by invaders and plunderers. As a result of yet another plunder, the village where David was staying was destroyed and plundered. This greatly upset him, and David made every effort to prevent such a thing from happening again. He prayed to the gods to bless these lands and protect the inhabitants from foreign attacks.
