The Church of St. Elias is located in the ancient city of Mtskheta, near the village of Tskhvarichamia. It is an architectural complex consisting of the main church, a chapel, and a bell tower. At the foot of the church is a neat terrace offering views of Georgia's most beautiful sites.

St. Elias, in whose honor the church was built, was one of the most selfless fighters for the independence of the Georgian people. He served as a spiritual leader for generations and is now venerated by many believers across the country. He was canonized for his preaching and active work to preserve the country's cultural identity. He was brutally murdered during one of his pilgrimages, and after his death, he became a martyr.
