A monument of Georgian architecture of the 20th century is the Kashveti Church. Its construction took 6 years, starting in 1904.
The Kashveti Church was built in the early 20th century, before the revolution. It is also interesting because the frescoes in the church building were painted by the Georgian artist, Professor Lado Gudiashvili in 1947.
In the heart of Georgia, in the capital Tbilisi, there is the majestic Kashveti Church. It belongs to the Georgian Orthodox Church and also bears the name of St. George. Attractions of Georgia are often located on the outskirts of the city or even the edge, due to the changes in the central areas over the centuries, but this did not affect the magnificent monument of Georgian architecture of the early 20th century - the Church of St. George, it is located in the central area of the city on Rustaveli Avenue.
Initially, during the late Middle Ages, a temple was built here, the history of which is associated with the famous Georgian figure David Garejeli. In the 18th century, another church was built on this site in Amilakhvar, made of brick, but at the end of the nineteenth century the church was destroyed. And at the beginning of the 20th century, the construction of a religious temple began again, just the one that we can see today.
The initiator of the construction was the representative of the Kakheti region authorities - Markos Tkemaladze, he approved the project of the famous architect of that time L. Biefeldom. The architect was inspired by the monumental, and at the same time elegant layout of the Samtavisi temple. The facades of the building were decorated by the hand of Neofat Agladze, they are decorated with national ornaments, turning into religious subjects. There is definitely something to see in Georgia.
The frescoes on the interior walls of the church were also created by a talented artist, namely, Lado Gudiashvili, he worked on the territory of the temple in 1947.
Thanks to the combination of amazing architecture and unique frescoes and ornaments, many travelers rank the Kaveteri Church among the most beautiful places in Georgia, and this is well deserved.
