The castle of Skhvilo is definitely worth a visit to a tourist in Georgia
The fortress of Skhvilo, which has an elongated quadrangular shape, was built in the fourteenth century and a significant part of it has been preserved to this day. Shvilo stands on the top of the mountain, which offers a beautiful view of the natural areas of Georgia. The fences, which have survived to our time, reach fourteen meters in height.
In 1973 , on the territory of the fortress Caught we shot several scenes of their popular Georgian film "Cranks".

The fortress of Skhvilo is located in Kaspsky municipality east of the village of Chali, three kilometers from the border between Tskhinvali and the historical region of Georgia Shida Kartli. The fortress was built in the XIV century. The history of this fortress is connected with the family of feudal lords of Zevdgenidze (a branch of the Amilakhvari family). One of this kind, Iotam Zevdgenidze, was canonized by the Georgian Church: in 1465, at the cost of his life, he saved George VIII from death, whom traitors wanted to kill. The grateful king paid tribute to his descendants, granted them the hereditary position of military commander and amlahor (commander of cavalry). In the XIV century, there was a residence of Zevdgenidze in Shvilo. In 1905-1907, the fortress served as a gathering place for revolutionary-minded peasants.
The fortress stands on the top of the mountain. From here you can control the surrounding territories - the valley of the Lekhuri River and the Tirifon plain. The fortress itself has an elongated quadrangular shape and occupies an area of 500 m2. The only entrance to the fortress is located in the western part, two meters from the surface of the earth. In all likelihood, it was possible to get there by a wooden staircase. The height of the fence is 10-14 meters, the thickness is 2 meters. The walls are reinforced with five-storey towers, which are completed with dentils. There are battle trails laid in the fortress complex; there are loopholes, stone throwers.
In the courtyard, which is divided by walls, there are ruins of a church, a reservoir, a barn, and living quarters. In the north-western corner of the fence there are traces of a quadrangular room. Presumably, there was a "trial" here. The territory of the fortress has not been explored by archaeologists, but due to its location and unusual shape, the fortress of Skhvilo is popular with tourists.
If you happen to be near Kartli, be sure to take a look at the fortress of Skhvilo. No tourist will be disappointed by what he saw. Untouched ancient history, unexplored ruins and endless legends and tales of local residents will captivate for a long time.
