The Museum of Illusions in Tbilisi is not a conventional museum. You don't look at exhibits behind glass — you interact with them. You don't need to speak Georgian or know a single local artist — you can still spend an hour and a half here and enjoy it. This is a place for those who want a break from historical routes, for families with children and for groups who like unusual photographs.

🔬 Where the museum came from

The project was conceived by Georgian creative agency "Sarke" — sarke means "reflection" in Georgian. Director Natalie Ananiashvili described the aim as creating a space for unusual and alternative entertainment for residents and visitors of Tbilisi.

The museum deliberately goes against conventional museum thinking: exhibits here are not primarily informative — they astonish and create emotions. Built with European specialists.

🌀 80+ exhibits: what actually happens here

• The optical tunnel — you stand on a solid, motionless surface but your body is convinced it's falling. One step requires a genuine act of will.
• The upside-down room — everything is flipped, you walk on the ceiling. The brain resists until it accepts the new reality.
• The room of crooked mirrors — shows you from multiple angles. A useful opportunity to see yourself differently.
• The infinity room — walls, floor and ceiling create the sensation of endless space. A meditative effect.
• Holograms — three-dimensional images without a screen.
• Exhibits based on physics, mathematics, biology and psychology — illusions that explain how perception actually works. Why the eye deceives the brain and vice versa.

In total: over 80 exhibits. Every one has instructions in Georgian, Russian and English. Photography everywhere is permitted.

🗺️ How to spend 1.5 hours in the museum

1️⃣ Start with the optical tunnel — a good calibration of your perception for everything that follows.

2️⃣ Walk through the room of crooked mirrors — you can take a series of unusual photographs here.

3️⃣ Go into the infinity room — no rushing; let the effect work.

4️⃣ Explore the physics and psychology exhibits — they explain why the illusions work the way they do.

5️⃣ The upside-down room is best visited once you've got used to the general principle.

6️⃣ End at the shop — the wooden educational games make good souvenirs and aren't the usual tourist fare.
