The Kiria Family House Museum keeps the setting of a town house and the belongings of several generations: furniture, dishes, textiles, photographs and documents. Collections like this show Mingrelian life from within, with no display case between the visitor and the object. Descendants or staff tell the story.
The house stands on Bako street, in a residential part of Zugdidi, close to the centre. The block is quiet, with private houses and gardens, and the Dadiani palace is ten minutes on foot. The town works well as a base before heading into Svaneti.
The house is small and half an hour is enough. The visit is easier to plan for the first half of the day and to arrange in advance. Combine it with a walk through the centre of Zugdidi.
Tips
- Arrange the visit in advance, the house is lived in
- Combine it with the Dadiani palace and the botanical garden
- Ask about the family photographs, usually the liveliest part
How to get there
- About fifteen minutes on foot from the centre of Zugdidi along Bako street
- Roughly two hours by car from Kutaisi via Samtredia and Senaki
