The mosaic of the Virgin Mary in Zugdidi, located in the park next to Freedom Square, is an important cultural and religious landmark of the city. Made in the classical Byzantine style, the mosaic depicts Mary in a bright red robe and blue robe, symbolizing her royalty and purity. The golden halo surrounding the figure of Mary emphasizes her holiness. Mary's gaze is calm and filled with mercy, and her hands are open in a gesture of greeting or prayer.
The mosaic is installed on a pedestal in a large arched niche made of light stone and decorated with relief patterns. The background of the composition is made up of thick green trees and a snow-white Art Nouveau building, which creates a contrast between ancient art and modern architecture. At night, the mosaic is illuminated, which gives this place a special atmosphere.
This place is a popular destination for both tourists and locals, combining cultural heritage and modern urban context. The mosaic of the Virgin Mary is not only an object of religious worship, but also a point of interest for art and history lovers. A visit to this place provides a unique opportunity to touch the Byzantine heritage and enjoy the harmony of natural and architectural beauty.
