The house museum is devoted to Nikoloz Shengelaia, a director whose work belongs to the early period of Georgian cinema. The house keeps the setting, the photographs, the documents and material connected with his films and with the Shengelaia film family. For anyone interested in the history of Georgian cinema this is a stop of its own.
The house stands in Obuji, an administrative unit of the Tsalenjikha municipality, in the foothills above the valley. Around it are orchards, forest and the roads towards Jvari and Svaneti. A second house museum works in the same area and the two are convenient together.
The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from nine in the morning until six in the evening, closed on Monday and Tuesday. Half an hour is enough. Combine the trip with the church in Tsalenjikha.
Tips
- Do not plan the visit for Monday or Tuesday, those are the closed days
- Combine the trip with the Tsalenjikha church and the other house museum nearby
- Watch the films beforehand, the house reads differently then
How to get there
- From Tsalenjikha along the local road, about fifteen minutes by car
- Roughly forty minutes from Zugdidi via Tsalenjikha
