The Archil Gelovani House Museum keeps the setting of the house and the objects tied to the name of its owner: furniture, photographs, documents and everyday things. Lechkhumi house museums are also valuable for the building itself: the timber, the stone base, the veranda looking over the valley. It is shown in person, so the account is lively.
The house stands in Spatagori, a village in the Tsageri municipality, on the slopes above the Rioni valley. Around it are forest, orchards and yards scattered across the hillside. Tsageri is less than half an hour away.
The house is small and half an hour is enough. Come in the warm season and in the first half of the day, and arrange the visit through the village in advance. Combine the trip with a wider Lechkhumi route.
Tips
- Come in the warm season, roads in Lechkhumi are harder in winter
- Combine the visit with Tsageri and Lentekhi, one route covers them
- Check the way in the village, navigation is imprecise here
How to get there
- From Tsageri along the local road, about twenty minutes by car
- Roughly two hours from Kutaisi via Tskaltubo and Tsageri
