The Ia Samsiani Museum is a village collection named for the person whose memory is kept here. Museums like this show documents, photographs, household objects and things gathered by the residents. The display is small, but it says as much about the village as about the person.
The museum stands in Jvara, a village in the Tetritskaro municipality, a few hundred metres from the second village collection. Around it are fields, pastures and the low hills of Kvemo Kartli. The way here runs from Tetritskaro along local roads.
The collection is intimate and twenty to thirty minutes is enough. The first half of the day is the easier time, and it is better to arrange the visit through the village. Both museums in Jvara make sense on one trip.
Tips
- See both village collections at once, a few minutes on foot apart
- Ask in the village if the door is locked, the key is usually close by
- Come in dry weather, local roads are harder after rain
How to get there
- West from Tetritskaro along the local road, about twenty minutes by car
- Roughly an hour and a quarter from Tbilisi via Kojori and Tetritskaro
