The Tbilisi Zoo is the most exotic and interesting park in the capital.
The history of the Tbilisi Zoo began on February 10, 1927, when the executive Committee of the Tbilisi City Council of Workers' Deputies created a zoological park on the basis of the community and allocated 70 hectares of land in the Vera Valley.
Here you can see the local fauna, as well as animals from different parts of the world, and the zoo's collection of birds is also diverse.
After heavy rains that took place in Tbilisi on the night of June 13-14, 2015, most of the zoo's territory was flooded and significantly damaged. A total of 277 animals died. Later, the authorities decided to build a zoo on a new territory — nine times larger than the old one. The zoo reopened on September 13, three months after the disaster struck.
