The prayer niche dedicated to Saint George is set about a kilometre from Tsveri. A niche is a recess in stone or masonry where candles and small icons are placed, with no separate building beside it.
A Saint George church stands in Tsveri itself, so the niche supplements the parish church rather than replacing it. The area belongs to Tetritskaro Municipality, to its wooded hilly part. The roads are narrow and the forest comes right up.
Do not touch ribbons, coins or offerings, as they are left on purpose. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
Tips
- Combine the visit with neighbouring villages to save time.
- Bring a torch if it is dark inside.
- Loud conversation is not welcome here.
Getting there
- Ask locals for directions, since the short way is not always obvious.
- The last stretch runs along a dirt road that softens after rain.
