After a long period of oblivion, the monastery was rediscovered thanks to Grigol Orbeliani and underwent restoration in the 19th century. Holy Fathers George and John, who dedicated their lives to service, were declared saints by the Georgian Orthodox Church, giving this place even more shrine.

Near the monastery there is a holy spring emitting healing water, and from the platform in front of the cathedral there is a breathtaking view of Tbilisi.
