The house was built in 1895 by Ilia Chavchavadze himself, together with his wife Olga Guramishvili, to spend summers there. The exhibition includes the writer's personal belongings, manuscripts, first editions of his books, photographs and documents relating to his life and public work. Ilia Chavchavadze, a classic of Georgian literature, publicist and public figure, played a key role in Georgia's 19th-century national revival.
Booking ahead is important during peak season. According to visitor reviews, in June, when the museum is heavily visited by school groups, waits of up to 2.5 hours are possible without a prior booking. The grounds include a garden with benches, a lawn and a drinking-water spring. The site is also popular for photo shoots, though access to the second-floor balcony may be limited depending on the visit terms.
