The church is dedicated to St. George and belongs to Sagarejo. George is the patron of most Kakheti churches, and in one town several parishes often carry his name, differing only by quarter.
Sagarejo lies on the plain at the foot of the Gombori range, an hour by road from Tbilisi. Shrines are many around: the ruins of the church of St. Marine stand about one kilometre and three hundred metres away, the church of Sts Peter and Paul two and a half kilometres, the church of St. Panteleimon three, the basilica of Giorgitsminda three.
The place is by the town and easy to reach in any weather. The parish is in use: covered shoulders and knees, a headscarf for women, quiet inside. Four shrines of the district stand within three kilometres and can be seen in one trip.
